Homebound Ministry

The Ministry of the Elderly and the Homebound seeks to fulfill the need for the Eucharist for those who cannot attend Mass.

Purpose

Vatican II emphasizes that “The Eucharist is the source and summit of Christian life” (Lumen Gentium 11) where our bond of unity is reinforced intensively and our spiritual lives are nourished. Therefore, the homebound ministry wants to serve those parishioners who are unable to attend Sunday Mass due to disability, old age, or temporary or chronic illness. With the desire to bring the Church to the homebound as well as extend the care and support of the parish community, we would like to offer:

  • Holy Communion: Ministers visit and bring Holy Communion to parishioners in care centers, nursing homes, private homes, and apartments weekly, biweekly or monthly. The day will be arranged and decided by both the ministers and the receiver.
  • Birthday and Christmas cards: We will especially remember the homebound on their birthday by sending birthday cards together with best wishes and sincere prayers. In Christmas season, the students of our parish will make Christmas cards to express our care and love to them.
  • Booklets of reflection for Advent and Lenten seasons: During the season of Advent and Lent, the little book of reflection will be sent to the homebound to help them live these seasons spiritually.
  • Parish bulletin: The parish bulletin is also sent to the homebound every week for the purpose of updating the information about our parish. During this time of pandemic, if you are unable to access the bulletin through our parish website and would like to have it sent to you, please contact the parish office.
  • Personal visit: On behalf of Father Peter Vu, Sister Mai Do is happy to make home visits to all homebound and nursing home parishioners at least once a month. A call is made before the visit to make sure of the best time and day for the visit.
