The ministry of cantor/song leader is primarily to sing the psalm and Gospel acclamation. A secondary role is to assist the assembly in the singing of songs and hymns. This role requires a dedication to delivering the word of God in music, a comfortable presence in front of the assembly, a pleasant voice and the willingness to learn music independently.
Requirement: Audition, music reading helpful but not essential
Mass: assigned based on your schedule
St. Mary Magdalen Choir
The St. Mary Magdalen adult choir is open to all men and women high school age and up. Its primary purpose is to promote full, conscious and active participation at liturgy among the members of the assembly.
The Adult Choir provides music for the 11:00 AM Mass, as well as select Holy Days including Christmas and Easter. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings and Sunday Warm-ups are prior to Mass at 10:15 in room 2.
The Adult Choir prepares music of many styles and genres including Chant, Traditional and Contemporary arrangements. Much of our literature includes three and four part singing. There is no audition for the Adult Choir and music reading skills are helpful but not required. A pleasant singing voice and good ear are encouraged. Voice part recordings are available to enhance the rehearsal process for readers and non-readers alike. The typical Adult Choir rehearsal consists of warm-up vocal exercises, vocal technique instruction, prayer, music rehearsal and fellowship. Music is rehearsed in a fast paced, fun environment. We are also a very social community with many opportunities for fun and fellowship among our members and their families.

The bell choir consists of members who play a 3-octave set of Schulmerich handbells. Members need to have a basic proficiency in reading music (mainly understanding rhythm) and be physically able to swing up to a couple of pounds of weight held in their hands.
Rehearsal: Thursdays, 5:30-6:25pm
Assistant conductor: Barbara Kozachik
This ad hoc ensemble consists of members of various ensembles and even some non-parishioners who lead the singing for funerals. This ministry is open to anyone who has frequent availability to sing a liturgy on a weekday morning.
Rehearsal: 45 minutes before a funeral liturgy
Mass: announced 2 or 3 days in advance
The SSA Women’s Choir consists of sopranos and altos singing three part arrangements. The Women’s choir provides music for occasional 9:00 and 11:00 Masses. Rehearsals are the 1st, 3rd and 5th Tuesdays of the month from 5:30-6:30.
There is no audition for the Women’s Choir and music reading skills are helpful but not required. A pleasant singing voice and good ear are encouraged. Voice part recordings are available to enhance the rehearsal process for readers and non- readers alike. Music for this ensemble is fun and challenging. Musical styles vary from traditional to contemporary.
