  Fr. Peter Vu, Pastor Email:

Deacon Mike Wood

Faith Formation

Molly Wisdom Faith Formation Coordinator My family and I have been a part of the St. Mary Magdalen faith community since we moved to the Kentwood area thirteen years ago. I have volunteered as a catechist for both the elementary and preschool programs and have served as a Pastoral Council member. In 2004 I began working for the parish as the Coordinator for the Spirituality Ministries. That part time position has evolved into a full time passion for ministry and I am now the Coordinator of Faith Formation.I am involved in the preschool programs, the elementary, middle school and adult Faith Formation programs, RCIA, (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), Mother’s Group, Sacramental Preparation and miscellaneous parish retreats. These ministries have allowed me to interact with the parishioners on both a professional and personal level and I have grown spiritually from that experience. I am blessed to serve such a vibrant, supportive and loving faith community.

Youth Ministry

Hello! I'm Allison, and I'm excited to introduce myself as the new Youth Coordinator here at St. Mary Magdalen Parish. If we haven't met yet, it's nice to meet you through the bulletin! A little about me: I grew up in Kentwood and attended St. Mary Magdalen Parish until I left for college. After four years in Ann Arbor getting my degrees in Film and English (Go Blue!) and almost another four years working out in Los Angeles, I am happy to be returning to the St. Mary Magdalen faith community to serve as the Youth Coordinator. When I'm not at the church teaching high school faith formation or singing at the 11am mass, you will probably find me playing board games with friends, teaching English to kids in China, watching movies, or reading books. As my family members can tell you, I read an absurd amount of books. I know firsthand that St. Mary Magdalen has a fantastic youth program, and I am so thankful that I get to return to it in this new role. I'm also glad that my predecessors left instructions! I know that with their support and with the support of this fantastic community, we can continue to build the youth program here at St. Mary Magdalen and foster deep and genuine relationships with both God and one another. I truly believe that the youth of our parish are truly the young church, and that through engagement and leadership opportunities, we are investing not only in the youth themselves, but in the future of the Catholic community. By promoting strong and healthy relationships with God and one another, I hope to continue to bring our youth into the wider parish family as they grow in their faith. Whether you're a parent, middle schooler, or high schooler, I can't wait to meet you! If you see me around the parish, in the office, or singing in mass, please find me and say hello. I look forward to engaging in discussions of faith, acts of service, and nights of fellowship with the youth of our parish, and hope to continue the fantastic work that is done in our parish daily. Yours in faith, Allison Hawkins

Emily Rushmore, Director of Music  The first time I walked in your doors, I sensed community, felt joy, and discovered your strong sense of mission. What a great place to be! I am so grateful to be a part of this beautiful parish community.  Thank you— to staff and parishioners— for your warm welcome of me to St. Mary Magdalen.I graduated in 2007 with a degree in Liturgical Music from Aquinas College. During my last year of school, I was hired as Coordinator of Music at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Wyoming (now The Pastoral Center at St. Dominic after its merge with St. Francis Xavier Church). I served in this position for 10 years.  Being able to combine my love of music and my faith has been so fulfilling; I am so grateful for this vocation. Above all, I treasure my vocation of motherhood. I have three small children: preschool through 2nd grade. I am in the stage of life that includes crunched cereal underfoot after breakfast, cleaning up after the magic that happens when 3 year olds and Crayola meet, and tackling the never ending pile of laundry. I love the beauty and joy in the everyday mundane living of family life. (Just haven’t found it in the laundry yet! ) Thank you once again. I look forward to serving your parish as Director of Music.

Christian Services

Ruth Bush Christian Services Coordinator Email: My family has called St. Mary Magdalen our faith home for the past 30 years. I volunteered in several ministries where I really did not have to be Catholic until 1996 when I went through RCIA and received my first Holy Communion and Confirmation at Easter Vigil. My family is a ‘regular’ at the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday. In 2003 I had the privilege of becoming a staff member where I have worn many hats and have gotten to know many of you personally. My current position is Coordinator of Christian Services where I help the parish with opportunities of living their faith by seeing the face of God in others around them. I am grateful to be part of a Parish that gives of their time, talent, and treasure so freely.

Business Manager

Joseph Hakeem, Business Manager Joseph Hakeem Parish Business Manager Email: I have been the Business Manager here at St. Mary Magdalen Parish since November, 2009. I have 12 years of experience with a regional public accounting firm. I graduated from Aquinas College in 1989 with a degree in Accounting and Business Administration. I also have a degree in Marketing from Michigan State University. My wife Terri and I have been married 33 years. We are parishioners at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. We have three adult children (all daughters), who have given us five grandchildren. I enjoy golf, reading, travel, and spending time with my wonderful family.

Michelle Mason Administrative Assistant  My family lived in the Grand Rapids area most of my life. I am the second oldest of 5 children, yet the shortest. We were members of this parish while I was growing up, then I moved away for awhile, then I came back. My husband Charles and I have been parishioners here for over 20 years. We have 4 children, Victoria who is 19, Shane is 18, Brian is 16 and Nicole is 14(and I am still the shortest). I was able to stay at home while my kids were younger. This gave me the opportunity to volunteer here and get involved in several ministries. I have enjoyed doing this because I have been able to get to know quite a few people. We think of St. Mary Magdalen as our second home and family, so it is awesome that I have been given the chance to work here in the office.
