Parish Staff

  Fr. Peter Vu, Pastor Email:

Deacon Mike Wood

Faith Formation

Molly Wisdom Faith Formation Coordinator My family and I have been a part of the St. Mary Magdalen faith community since we moved to the Kentwood area thirteen years ago. I have volunteered as a catechist for both the elementary and preschool programs and have served as a Pastoral Council member. In 2004 I began working for the parish as the Coordinator for the Spirituality Ministries. That part time position has evolved into a full time passion for ministry and I am now the Coordinator of Faith Formation.I am involved in the preschool programs, the elementary, middle school and adult Faith Formation programs, RCIA, (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), Mother’s Group, Sacramental Preparation and miscellaneous parish retreats. These ministries have allowed me to interact with the parishioners on both a professional and personal level and I have grown spiritually from that experience. I am blessed to serve such a vibrant, supportive and loving faith community.

Youth Ministry

My name is Chad Roden. I am the new Coordinator of Youth Ministry for the parish, and I am very excited to be here. I graduated from Aquinas College in June 2015 with my degree in Theology and a minor in Catholic Studies. I have been working with youth of many different parishes and diocese for the last seven years by helping run retreats, VBS programs, and youth groups.

I come from Stevensville, Michigan in the southwest corner of the state. Stevensville is between farmland and the beach. I am the oldest of two, and have one younger brother named Connor. My favorite bible verse is Exodus 3:5, “"Do not come near; put off your shoes from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” I am also a temporary professed member of the Brothers and Sisters of Charity. The Brothers and Sisters of Charity, or BSC, is a Catholic religious community with our motherhouse in Berryville Arkansas. It was founded in the early 70’s by the Catholic singer and songwriter John Michael Talbot. As a Brother of Charity, I wear the Heart Tau, which is the main symbol for our community. The top is the Tau cross. The Tau is an ancient symbol which can be found even in the Old Testament in Ezekiel 9:4. It is an ancient symbol of penance adopted by many saints including St. Anthony of the Desert and St. Francis of Assisi. The bottom part is a heart which symbolizes the heart of the church. The heart also reminds our members of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I look forward to meeting everyone and getting to know the parish in the time to come.

luke's pic  My name is Luke Simpson and I am thrilled to be starting as your new parish Music Director! I am excited to be joining this diverse community as I have worked as an organist in several other parishes. I have always enjoyed learning the traditions and hymnology of many different Catholic parish cultures as they are all tied together in the universality of the Church through praise of our Lord. I am looking forward to joining you at St. Mary Magdalen to learn your traditions and help enrich our liturgies through the gift of music.  A little about myself- I grew up in Allenton, Michigan as the second of six musical children. I graduated from Oakland University last year with a bachelor’s degree in communications. During my college years I was a member of the Oakland Chorale and also studied voice. I began playing the piano at the age of 6 and learned organ starting at age 16, skills which carried me through high school and college as I played the organ on weekends at various parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit. I am engaged to be married this August and am excited to be moving to this side of the state! My goal for the parish is to bring us closer to Christ through the use of sacred music. I want the music to assist us in reflecting on the Word and the message it sends. I will strive to serve God, St. Mary Magdalen’s parish and you to the best of my capabilities.

Christian Services

Ruth Bush Christian Services Coordinator Email: My family has called St. Mary Magdalen our faith home for the past 30 years. I volunteered in several ministries where I really did not have to be Catholic until 1996 when I went through RCIA and received my first Holy Communion and Confirmation at Easter Vigil. My family is a ‘regular’ at the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday. In 2003 I had the privilege of becoming a staff member where I have worn many hats and have gotten to know many of you personally. My current position is Coordinator of Christian Services where I help the parish with opportunities of living their faith by seeing the face of God in others around them. I am grateful to be part of a Parish that gives of their time, talent, and treasure so freely.

Business Manager

Joseph Hakeem, Business Manager Joseph Hakeem Parish Business Manager Email: I have been the Business Manager here at St. Mary Magdalen Parish since November, 2009. I have 12 years of experience with a regional public accounting firm. I graduated from Aquinas College in 1989 with a degree in Accounting and Business Administration. I also have a degree in Marketing from Michigan State University. My wife Terri and I have been married 33 years. We are parishioners at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. We have three adult children (all daughters), who have given us five grandchildren. I enjoy golf, reading, travel, and spending time with my wonderful family.

MollyReppuhn, Parish Secretary My name is Molly Reppuhn (Ruh-poon) and I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to serve as your Parish Secretary. I am one of eleven children, and was raised in a wonderful, loving Catholic family whose faith was of the utmost importance. My husband Curt and I have 4 children ages 18, 19, 22, and 24. We have recently moved back to Grand Rapids from northern Michigan 4 years ago. I was a Catholic school teacher for almost 20 years, and I am very happy to continue working in a faith-filled environment at St. Mary Magdalen Church.

Michelle Mason, Administrative Assistant  My family lived in the Grand Rapids area most of my life. I am the second oldest of 5 children, yet the shortest. We were members of this parish while I was growing up, then I moved away for awhile, then I came back. My husband Charles and I have been parishioners here for over 20 years. We have 4 children, Victoria who is 19, Shane is 18, Brian is 16 and Nicole is 14(and I am still the shortest). I was able to stay at home while my kids were younger. This gave me the opportunity to volunteer here and get involved in several ministries. I have enjoyed doing this because I have been able to get to know quite a few people. We think of St. Mary Magdalen as our second home and family, so it is awesome that I have been given the chance to work here in the office.
